Animal Crafts

"Scrub Bugs"

Making "animal crafts" is a wonderful way to let our child express their creativity. Scrub Bugs are as cute as they are fun and easy to make.

Supplies You Need:

Plastic pot scrubber
Pompoms (large and small)
Googly eyes
Pipe cleaners or chenille sticks
Craft glue
Feathers or other fun crafty objects

Directions:

1. Glue 2 small pompoms or one large pompom to the top of the pot scrubber (2 for the eyes or one for the head-2 different animals)

2. Glue the googly eyes to the pompoms

3. Add feathers to the top or pipe cleaners for antennas

4. For legs, thread pipe cleaners through the bottom of the pot scrubber

Tip: Did you know that the calorie requirements and serving sizes for a toddler are about the same as those of a 3 or 4 year-old preschooler? As your child grows and becomes more active, his or her energy needs may increase. So how can you make sure he or she has enough without giving him or her to much?

1. Provide three small meals and two to three snacks a day to help provide the energy and nutrition he or she needs.

2. Always offer a smaller portion, and then if he or she is still hungry, give her more.

3. It's okay for your child to get hungry. If you've offered at least one food that you know your child likes and he or she chooses not to eat, that's all right. Your child will make up for it at the next meal.

4. Don't offer food between meals and snacks. Learning what hunger and fullness feels like may help your child avoid overeating, which in turn, may help reduce the chance for obesity later in life.

5. Avoid making him clear his plate.
