Celebration Plate

What You Will Need:

√ Ceramic Paints

√ Unglazed Plate

√ Soft Brush

√ Pencil

√ Fine Paintbrush

Step 1: Paint baby's hand--Apply a coat of paint to the baby's hand using a soft brush. Press baby's hand firmly and gently down on the plate. (hint: have a few test runs on paper first)Lift so as not to smudge. Let dry.

Step 2: Draw design--Use pencil to draw a decorative design running around the border of the plate. Using the baby's date of birth is a good idea.

Step 3: Apply paint--Use a very fine paint brush to paint over the design. Let the paint dry completely.

Step 4: Finishing--Use the pencil to write baby's name in the middle of the plate, next to or on top of baby's handprint. When complete, the plate can be glazed and fired to finish. (hint: most pottery shops will allow you to take the plate home to work on, then return it to them for firing)

Step 5: Displaying--Hot glue a piece of ribbon (12-24") to the back of the plate then hang on the wall or mount plate to a plate hanger and hang. The plate can also be displayed on a plate shelf.
