Button Crafts

"Fun Button Clowns"

Creative button crafts for kindergartners are making homemade "Button Clowns." Stacking buttons in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes, our little ones can create stick-figure toys. They will have a blast making these funny clowns!

What You Will Need For Each Button Clown:
36 inches of black waxed thread
An assortment of buttons--variety of colors and sizes

What To Do To Make 1 Clown:
CUT two 18" lengths of the black waxed thread

LINE up the buttons, on a flat surface, in the shape of a man. From the bottom of one of the "foot buttons" run one end of thead through the hole of each button (or opposite holes if there are four). Even out the ends of the thread, so the button rests in the center. Repeat with the other foot button. These are the two leg pieces.

STACK the leg buttons above the feet by running the two ends of the thread through each button. For four-hole buttons, run the thread only through the two opposite holes so the buttons stay lined up. When you reach the top of the leg, tie a single knot. Repeat for the other leg.

STRING the midsection by running both strings from each leg through one of the holes of the larger buttons. Repeat until you are one button or two buttons from the top of the mid-section. Separate one string from each hole and lay them to the side for the arms. Run the remaining two center strings through the last midsection button and tie a single knot.

STRING the two side threads through the arm buttons, going through only one hole, to the last button, then string them back to the midsection using the other hole. Wrap the remaining thread from both arms around the center strings and tie a double knot between the midsection buttons.

THREAD the two strings through the neck buttons and the head buttons, then the hat buttons. Tie a double knot at the top. Tie the excess thread in a knot above the hat for hanging.
