"Hourglass-Shaped Drum"
Children love to make things and they love to make noise. Children crafts are fun and easy to make, utilizing things we have around the house. Let's get started with this "hourglass-shaped drum."
Supplies You Need:
Two paper cups Paper bag Yarn Glue or tape Two beads Scissors
Directions:
1. Tape or glue together the bottoms of two paper cups
2. From paper bags, cut four circles large enough to cover the open ends of the cups
3. For the drumheads, glue two circles over each open end
4. Glue yarn around the two ends and around the middle of the drum
5. Cut two pieces of yarn long enough to reach from the center of the drum to the center of a drumhead
6. Thread a bead on each yarn piece and tie a knot on the end, fill the bead with glue and let it dry
7. Tie the yarn pieces to the middle of the drum so that they hang on opposite sides
To Play: Hold it in the center and quickly twist your wrist back and forth
Tip: Game to teach our children patience. "I Spy"
How to Play: Take turns spotting nearby objects and describing them: "I spy with my little eye something that is green..." The other players try to guess what the object is: "A tree!" "Dad's shirt!" Whoever guesses right gets to be the next "spy."
What it Teaches: Patience. Patience is all about waiting. Any game that forces kids to listen politely while other players have their turn drives this lesson home.
