Christmas Cookies

"Edible Ornaments"

They look festive and taste great! Christmas cookies that can also be used as ornaments. Kids will love making these and decorating the tree with them, and eating them of course!!

Ingredients You Need:

18 ounce package refrigerated sugar cookie dough

One egg white, lightly beaten with a drop of water

Green sugar crystals (sprinkles)

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees

2. Break the tube of dough in half. On a work surface or a piece of parchment paper, roll out half of the dough to 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick

3. Press out cookies with a tree-shaped cookie cutter and place on baking sheets about 1 inch apart (repeat with the remaining dough)

4. Brush cookies lightly with egg-white wash and sprinkle with green sugar

5. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly golden on the bottom, rotating the pans from top to bottom and front to back once, remove from oven and place cookies on a wire rack to cool

6. Use a thin straw to punch a hole in the top of each cookie right out of the oven

7. When completely cool, spread icing evenly over each cookie, top with edible pearls or sprinkles

8. Thread a thin ribbon through the hole for hanging these cute tree cookies on your tree

Tip: Think beyond the gift tin, instead wrap cookies in wooden or paper-mache' boxes, clear canisters, or cellophane bags decorated with rubber stamps or stickers. Line boxes or tins with wax paper and pack cookies carefully but snugly so they are less likely to break. Tie the gift with a festive ribbon and include a recipe card.
