Crafts for Preschool

"Paddle Game"

Teaching our children to play well with others can be fun with crafts for preschool. Putting those little hands to work making this paddle game and then using it play with their friends will teach them creativity and sportsmanship. They will have hours of fun with this game.

Supplies You Need:

Paper plate
Empty cereal box
Cardboard tube (paper towel tube or toilet paper tube works great)
Scissors
Colored construction paper or paints
Glue

Directions:

1. Trace a paper plate twice onto a cereal box

2. Cut out the circles

3. Decorate them with the construction paper or paint

4. Make a smaller circle near the edge of each larger circle (you can trace the bottom of the cardboard tube to get a perfect circle)

5. Cut out the smaller circles

6. For a birdie, cut two 1-inch rings from the cardboard tube

7. Paint them

8. Slide one ring inside the other and glue them in place

To Play: Slide your thumb or finger through the small hole in a paddle. Hit the birdie back and forth to a friend.

Tip: Teaching our young ones to tell the truth can be fun.

How to Play: Gather the family or classroom in a favorite spot and give every player a chance to finish the sentence: "I was scared when..."Parents or teachers can get the ball rolling by telling their own stories ("I was scared when Josh hid at the grocery store and I couldn't find him"). After everyone's had a turn repeat the game using other emotions like "happy" or "surprised."

What it Teaches: Honesty. When you give kids the go-ahead to talk about their feelings, positive or negative, you help them feel safe to tell the truth. Children learn values best by watching and listening to adults. If you talk openly, and if you are supportive of family members and classmates in front of the kids, you set a healthy example of how to act with others.
