Do It Yourself Crafts

"Amazing Shadow Boxes"

We are blessed with reasons to celebrate throughout the year; "do it yourself crafts" will give you unique ideas for heartfelt gift giving. When we make a shadow box for someone close to our heart, they are as moved to receive it as we were making it.

When I made a special shadow box tailored for my daughter and her "soon-to-be" husband, they were both moved to tears. That gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. When my sister and I made a shadow box for our mother, filled with memorabilia from her childhood, we all felt so close at heart.

Learn how to build an amazing shadow box that will capture and preserve a lifetime of memories. The ideas are endless as well as the memories.

Supplies You Need:

Shadow Box (your choice of size and color; you can get this at any arts and crafts store)
Piece of lace or material to cover the backboard of the shadow box
Glue gun
Memorabilia (pictures, baby clothing, baby shoes, wedding, birth or graduation announcements, etc.)
Craft Supplies: buttons, doilies, ribbon, small picture frames, jewelry, silk flowers, scrapbook letters (Tip: Every time I go to a garage sale or thrift store, I browse around for items such as old jewelry, doilies, frames, etc. and keep them on hand for my next shadow box)

Directions:

1. Take the backing off the shadow box frame and line with your choice of lace or material; hot glue the fabric nicely to the back of the backboard

2. Arrange your "memoribilia" on the covered backboard (cut pictures to fit frames using only the front of the frames, no need for the backing since you will be gluing it onto the backboard), you can use doilies and announcements as additional background decor

3. When you have everything laid out the way you like it then use the hot glue gun to secure it all to the backboard

4. Put the shadow box together

Help: If you are struggling with do it yourself craft ideas or how to arrange your shadow box, feel free to contact me by going to the navigation bar and clicking on "Contact Me." I will do my best to offer suggestions, as this is a passion close to my heart.
