Fun Crafts for Kids

"Colorful Chalk Recipe"

After you make the fun crafts for kids chalk, play the two sidewalk games below!!

Supplies You Need: (for one piece of chalk)

1 cup warm water
2 cups plaster of paris
mixing bowl and a spoon
powdered tempura paint
toilet paper tube
plastic wrap
masking tape or a rubber band
waxed paper

Directions:

1. Pour warm water into mixing bowl. Sprinkle the plaster of paris into the water while stirring. Add just a little water at a time, until it is thoroughly mixed.
2. Mix in the tempera paint (1 T. at a time) until you reach the desired color.
3. Cover one end of toilet paper tube with plastic wrap, and hold it in place with tape or a rubber band. Make a liner with the waxed paper, and slip it inside the tube to keep the plaster of paris from sticking.
4. Pour the plaster mixture into the tube. Tap the side of the tube to release any air bubbles.
5. Set aside and let dry for 24-48 hours. Then gently remove the chalk.
6. Repeat steps 1-4 using other paint colors.

Tip: Best to clean up bowl and spoon outside with a garden hose as the plaster may clog up the sink.

Kids will have so much fun playing with this chalk that they made with their own hands!! Fun crafts for kids gets them outdoors and helps them to be creative. What a wonderful way to spend a beautiful summer day.
Here are two great sidewalk chalk games

"Triangle Toss"

Use chalk to draw a triangle. Divide it into five sections. Number the sections 1 through 5 (5 being the top corner of the triangle). Draw a line about two feet below the base of the triangle. Players stand behind the line and take turns tossing three pebbles onto the numbered sections. The highest total score for each round wins.

"Wild Snakes"

With chalk, draw seven circles in a zigzag line; number them 1 through 7. Draw a starting line near circle 1. Each player puts a small stone behind the line and takes a turn trying to flick his or her stone into circle 1. A player who lands in circle 1 tries to reach circle 2 on his or her next turn. Players continue taking turns, going up to 7 and then back down to 1.
Players who complete the course become "Wild Snakes." They try to hit other players' stones and knock those players out of the game. But any Wild Snake whose stone lands in a circle is out of the game. The winner is the last Wild Snake remaining.
