Holiday Craft Ideas

"Leprechaun Hat Pit Trap"

Leprechauns have big egos, so a giant version of their own hat is irresistible to them. Holiday craft ideas that will help you trap leprechauns. With these clever traps, families can take a stand!!

Supplies You Need:

One recycled oatmeal container

Green & black felt (2 shades of green)

Twigs (2-12-inch twigs and 7-4-inch twigs) for the ladder

Crumpled piece of gold foil (for bait)

Wood glue and craft glue

Directions:

1. Wrap the oatmeal containers with the green felt and glue it in place. To make the trap, cut a hole in the lid, then cunningly conceal it with a circle of green felt that will give way when the leprechaun steps on it.

2. Using natural materials make these woodland creatures feel at home. Make the ladder out of the twigs held together with the wood glue. Prop up against the hat.

3. So that the top of the "hat trap" doesn't give way too soon, use a lightweight bait, such as a crumpled piece of gold foil, put the "bait" on top of the trap very carefully.

4. Leprechauns love to break the rules. A warning sign made from card stock and propped up against the hat is sure to lure them in. ("Do Not Climb Ladder!")

5. Add finishing touches. Cut out (in a lighter shade of green felt) several clovers. Glue onto the hat in various places. Cut a black band from the black felt and glue on the base of the hat.

6. Cut another circle of felt, 3-inches larger than the base of the oatmeal container and a piece of cardstock, the same size. Glue the felt on top of cardstock and use this for the brim of the hat (and the base.)
