Nature Crafts
"Spring Globe"
Here's a twist on the traditional snow globe. Make nature crafts by using fabric, flowers and plastic figures. Celebrate the coming of warmer weather with this easy-to-make "spring globe."
Supplies You Need:
Clean jar with lid
Fabric flowers
Small plastic figures (bugs or insects)
Hot glue gun
Floral wire (found at any crafts store)
Glitter and confetti
Teflon or plumber's tape (found in hardware stores)
Scissors
Green construction paper
Directions:
1. Turn the lid upside down. Loosely arrange the flowers and figures on it; placing the jar over the items every so often to check for fit
2. Use the hot glue gun to adhere the flowers and figures to the lid. To attach a butterfly in the globe, hot glue the figure to one end of a piece of floral wire, then hot glue the wire's other end to the lid
3. Fill the jar with water to about half an inch from the top and then add the glitter and confetti
4. Dry the rim of the jar and wrap one layer of the Teflon tape around the threads to ensure a leak-proof seal. Immerse the decorations in the jar and tighten the lid
5. Cut and fringe the green construction paper to make a decorative base (about 3 to 4 inches width) and glue it around the lid
TIP: Make a "soothie" for those spring-time colds. Help your child fill an "old" cotton sock with rice and then sew it shut. When you need a heating pad, pop it in the microwave for one minute. Save the other sock to fill with ice for bumps and bruises.
