"Umbrella Cookies"

Ingredients You Will Need:

Sugar Cookie Dough, store-bought or your favorite recipe
Cookie Sticks (available at any craft supply store)
Frosting
Food Coloring
Tube of White Icing
Bendable Straws in a Variety of Colors

Directions:

1. Roll out cookie dough 1/4" thick
2. Using a plastic cup or round cookie cutter, cut out dough circles
3. With a knife, cut each circle in half, then scallop the straight edge
4. Lay cookie sticks on an ungreased cookie sheet and gently press a half-circle of dough on top of each stick
5. Bake the cookies according to the recipe directions
6. When the cookies are cool, frost them
7. Pipe on icing lines with the tube of white icing and make vertical grooves by dragging a toothpick up to make one groove and down for the next
8. Trim a bendable straw to fit over the stick, slide it onto the stick with the bendable curve at the bottom (to make an umbrella handle)

Kids will have a blast making these and decorating them with a rainbow of spring colors. They will especially ENJOY eating them!!

Tip: Muddy Boot Solution-If you don't have a mudroom, here is a great tip for muddy boots in the springtime. Create a boot garden by hammering stakes into the ground near the back door. Just hang your muddy boots upside-down on the stakes and let the rain wash them clean for the next time.

Tip: If you can sing in the rain, why not paint? A soggy day can transform drawings into impressionist art. Draw on card stock with washable markers, then place the papers outdoors in the rain until the colors have run. Bring the paintings back inside and put them on a flat surface to dry.

"Brand-New Holiday"

The rain is coming down in sheets.
The sky is thunder gray.
No point in getting dressed because
we can't go out to play.
So bring on the crayons, books, and games--
the family's in to stay
as I officially declare
today Pajama Day!
